A Perspective Review of Midnight Transmissions 001 ft. Patrick Russell

by Big C Energy

I’m at dinner with Adam and Patrick at Baan Siam. I am being introduced as Adam and Patrick are catching up and discussing lore. I learn that a part of the table is gluten free. Meanwhile, I’m super excited to be sitting next to our headliner for the evening, trying to anticipate what scene I would be standing in a few hours later.

Midnight Transmissions was a great leap for MFM, hosting the first of our very own monthly series at Transmission DC. While in Houston, I experienced FOMO with events Associate and Stos played like Goth Prom and Midnight FM Live in Adams Morgan, so in a way, this was a true reunion for us, as it was the first time we had played together under the same roof in nearly a year.

The night was an amazing success, with much appreciation to everyone who came out to dance, and the Transmission staff, who we’re familiar with, but a special shout out is owed to our loyalists, our crew of supporters who are Midnight FM through and through. Stos has had an ability to amass a following of the next generation’s dancefloor who are very supportive and forward thinking, and we had a smooth night because of that. The DIY ethos was on full display as crew and venue came together to work doors, change light bulbs, put up mirror balls, and keep an eye out to ensure the safety of guests. Hopefully other collectives are as lucky.

In all, you have to be at the next one, and I don’t just say that. Patrick Russell knocked the HOUSE down! As I was leaving to perform DJ duties for a friend’s birthday, I was overjoyed hearing a soulful push of electronic sounds that had everyone inside moving. On the first floor, I began the night with a gradient of dark disco to techno that had me feeling unleashed. Adam followed up with a range of Detroit-influenced sounds, diving into hypnotic realms, which led into our headliner. Upstairs Mverto Futura had me feeling like I was dancing in an 80’s goth club with Stos finishing up duties with signature Midnight FM sounds.

Join us in January when we feature a personal favorite, Shaun J. Wright, on the Saturday of Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend, also MLK Weekend. Come geared up and ready; the music during MAL is some of the best throughout the year. You will be talking about it in the summer!

P.S. That Prince throwback was amazing. Thanks Russel šŸ˜‰
